Shades of Green

Shades of Green
I once thought I knew what green was,
mixture of blue and yellow,
the color of grass.
Simple,
unordained,
organic sweetness.

Waking
comes on sometimes
like a slow
moving
tide,
inch by inch,
your eyes widen,
until suddenly,
you see.

Other times,
it is like a tsunami,
lifting you on its crest
to touch the stars.

I now know green,
the jade ocean under an ochre sun,
sage eyes reflected back to me,
your viridian heart with its touch of blue
rising and rising

as dark as blood.
